Wisterias are hardy fast growing
climbers
Chris & Marie love climbing Wisterias! Chris’ all
time favorite is Wisteria floribunda carnea.
At Chris & Maries old family home in Mount Dandenong they grew a
beautiful collection of Wisterias over a large wooden pergola. Chris
loves Wisteria floribunda carnea best of all as he said that it is
has twice as many flowers compared with other varieties, the racemes
are smaller but there’s heaps more of them! It has soft pink
fragrant flowers that emerge before its leaves and the flowers last
a week longer than the other varieties, they flower for around 4
weeks! Chris said that when the leaves emerge they are beautiful
pink colour which changes to lime green. Wisteria floribunda carnea
is the most vigorous and hardy of all the wisterias.
Wisterias look great planted over
archways and pergolas
Wisterias are hardy fast growing climbers that have
long been sought after for their magnificent drooping sprays of
perfumed flowers. They are deciduous and frost hardy with twisted
woody stems. Most varieties flower in early Spring which is
followed
by soft light green foliage throughout Spring and Summer, bean like
seed pods are produced after flowering. Wisterias require good
strong support, they may take a few years to establish, once
established they are a vigorous climber. If required, prune after
flowering to shape your Wisterias. Wisterias look great planted over
archways and pergolas and can be grown as standards. They love full
sun positions in well drained soils, water and fertilise well when
they are flowering and also in the warmer months. We recommend
Fertilising every three months with Devotion™ Time Release
Fertiliser.
