Borders up to 1m

If your garden bed receives at least ½ a day of full sun or more and your soil can become wet/ boggy and/or is heavy clay these border plants are suitable for your garden situation:

Tom Thumb

Botanical Name: Euonymus fortunei, Euonymus japonicas microphyllus
Height x width: 50cm x 50cm
Planting distance for border: 4 per metre
Conditions: Very hardy, will thrive in most soils but prefers full sun to part shade in well drained soils.
Features: Dense compact glossy dark green narrow leaves on a dwarf bush
Landscape use: Low hedge, borders, topiary, containers for patios and courtyards

Myrtus luma

Botanical Name: Luma apiculata
Height x width: up to 4m x 3m, keep trimmed for border.
Planting distance for border: 4 per metre for thick dense border
Conditions: Will tolerate a wide range of conditions but prefers well drained soils, mulch well.
Features: Small glossy aromatic foliage and small white cup shape flowers from mid summer to mid autumn, excellent trimmed into topiary standards and shapes.
Landscape use: Hedges, screens, topiary, obelisks, small tree, large shrub.

Pink Pixie

Botanical Name: Escalonia species dwarf
Height x width: 70cm x 70cm
Planting distance for border: 3 or 4 per metre
Conditions: Full sun to part shade in well drained soils, hardy will handle slightly damp conditions but best to mound up, frost tolerant.
Features: Vibrant glossy leaves are covered in spring and summer with small brilliant pink bell shaped flowers in clusters.
Landscape use: Hedges, borders, single specimen, pots, general landscape use.

Dwarf Blue Agapanthus

Botanical Name: Agapanthus ‘Dwarf Blue’
Height x width: 45-50cm x 45-50cm
Planting distance for border: 30-40cm
Conditions: Very hardy, like’s full sun to part shade in well-drained soils, will handle most conditions
Features: Fine strap like lime-green foliage witch bears light-blue flowers on long stems in rather open heads during summer, makes a wonderful display.
Landscape use: Borders, general garden planting, pots, foliage contrast, cut flower.

Dwarf White Agapanthus

Botanical Name: Agapanthus ‘Dwarf White’
Height x width: 45-50cm x 45-50cm
Planting distance for border: 30cm
Conditions: Very hardy, like’s full sun to part shade in well-drained soils, will handle most conditions.
Features: Fine strap like lime-green foliage witch bears white flowers on long stems in rather open heads during summer, makes a wonderful display.
Landscape use: Borders, general garden planting, pots, foliage contrast, cut flower.

Mondo grass ‘tall’

Botanical Name: Ophiopogon japonicus
Height x width: 30cm x 30cm
Planting distance for border: 5 per metre, note: plants may be divided
Conditions: Full sun to shade, can be planted in most soil types
Features: Has a soft look that complements cottage garden to lush tropical gardens, formal, contemporary and modern landscapes.
Landscape use: Borders around low growing plants, paths, edges and in front of low hedges to create a layered effect, also look great planted in and around plants in pots.

Planting distance for border: 8 per metre, note: pots may be divided
Conditions: Full sun to shade, can be planted in most soil types

Bongo Borders® Liriope

Botanical Name: Liriope gigantea
Height x width: 80cm x 60cm
Planting distance for border: 50-60cm
Conditions: Very hardy, likes full sun to shade in well-drained soils.
Features: Dense, rich and glossy dark green grass like plant, great for a range of garden styles.

Box Leaved Privet

Botanical Name: Ligustrum undulatum
Height x width: Up to 1.2 metres, or trimmed lower, can grow a 2-3 foot hedge in 12 months
Planting distance for border: 4 per metre for dense bushy hedge or border
Conditions: Will grow in very poor or heavy soils, full sun to part shade, trim regularly to promote bushy growth and maintain formal shape
Features: Rich green lush foliage, which will give a traditional style finish but grow very quickly
Landscape use: Low borders and medium hedges, excellent for formal landscapes or edging and topiary
