gardening products and have trademarked them as ‘Streuth’
How
this came about is that Chris noted that tools of all types have
become very cheap in the last few years but often you buy a tool
for just a few dollars and go to do a job with it, it will break
within a few minutes. Chris wondered if it was possible to
import tools that were strong and durable yet cheap.
He went to China and obtained samples from hundreds of suppliers
and brought them back and gave them to the staff in his
production nursery. Most tools were the wrong shape, some of the
sprayers didn’t pump, others didn’t spray and some of the gloves
wore out in no time but every so often we found gloves, sprayers
or tools that really worked and were durable. The good items
were so far and few between that we found our staff tended to
say ‘Strueth’ this sprayer is terrific or ‘Strueth’ these
secateurs really work! so we named our brand ‘Strueth’.
One thing that helped us is that when we found a good product
from one manufacturer we would find that all or most of their
products were good. You might ask why would manufacturers
produce tools that are not durable or don’t work.
When Chris has been at the busy trade fairs and has sat and
listened in to buyers from big chains make huge purchases they
simply look at the tool and buy on price, there is no testing or
discussion of the quality of the tool.
It took two
years of sampling and testing to create our range!
