June and Graham's Veggie Patch

Mini Makeover 9

June and Graham are keen veggie growers

mini makeoverLast summer their veggie garden produced lots of Capsicum, Silver beet, Tomatoes and Snow Peas but it was ready for a good cleanout, fertilizing and replenishing for next summer.

We cleared out the old veggies, spread four bags of Surecrop compost (which contains plenty of fertilizer). Then we turned the whole garden over one spade depth and broke the clods with the spade. Marie then chopped and smoothed it with a steel rake.

The centerpiece really brought the veggie patch to life!!!
To make the veggie patch more colourful and exciting we put a tall red ripple pot at the end of the brick path and planted a variegated Cumquat surrounded by blue prostrate Rosemary. “Rosemary Blue Lagoon”. The centerpiece really brought the veggie patch to life!!!

Next we planted some large Tomatoes, Spinach, Lettuce, Onions and Broad beans. Then all the smaller seedlings of Broccoli, Capsicum, French Beans, Eggplant, Silver beet, Beetroot and Snow Peas.

Planting Tomatoes and Capsicum this time of year is a little risky but with a warm spring they will be right.

Thanks Peter for your beautiful seedlings it’s what made this job
Peter from Scottsburn Nurseries donated all the Veggie seedlings for the makeover. Scottsburn are our main suppliers of seedlings and they have really top quality interesting product for very reasonable prices. Thanks Peter for your beautiful seedlings it’s what made this job.

June and Graham were two of the nicest people we have ever done a makeover for. June presented us with a selection of Relishes and Jam that she had made herself and they were beautiful and Graham gave us a big bag of dangerously hot chilllies from his own garden. Last week Marie went to Costco and bought the biggest wheel of cheese I have ever seen. Junes relishes and Grahams chillies were the perfect accompaniment!!
